Maria Jäger studied social science at the Ruhr University in Bochum. She completed her master's degree in the "Culture and the Person" program. Following an internship at the Leo Baeck Institute in New York City, she wrote her master's thesis on the 1938/39 Kindertransporte to England as sequential traumatization.
Since 2020, Maria Jäger has been a doctoral fellow at the Cusanuswerk. In her dissertation, she empirically continues the theoretical studies on the Kindertransports begun in her master's thesis. In this framework, she deals with the autobiographical narratives of the (so-called) children, sheds light on them in the context of the concept of sequential traumatization and also explores the sociogenesis of the intergenerational transmission of traumatization.
Her research interests include social and cultural psychology, psychoanalytic social psychology, narrative psychology and autobiographical self-thematizations, trauma and culture, intergenerationality, identity theory, qualitative social research.
